Charles Dow

Charles Dow was born on November 6, 1851 in Sterling in the American family of farmers. Everything began in 1851 when in a family of farmers, the young man, having hardly reached majority, dreaming to conquer the world, left a family in job searches. Thus, work as the journalist in the newspaper with economic subject became the first step on top of success. Actually he became the primogenitor of a genre of financial journalism, and not just the well-known index.

As well as each talented person, Charles starts realizing that his knowledge in it area economic journalism and exchange analytics can bring it considerable success, and it makes the decision, together with the partner Edward Jones to go to New York to conquer new peaks. And already shortly, young Dow settles the journalist in "The Wall-Street Journal" — one of the largest and most influential American editions.

At some point he accurately realized that wants and can be something more significant, and the desire to develop pushed its ambitions on the following step to world top of glory, and led to creation of a uniform index of stock market.

The idea of the Dow Jones index was in giving of each action of equal weight and calculation of the percentage change in price that in turn resulted courses in average value. Thus traders, had an opportunity to define a certain general direction of movement of the market.

The Dow Jones index included actions of the largest American companies. After formation in their index was no more than 12, now it is actions of 30 largest companies of America. These companies are included in all industries, except the transport. Selection of the companies for an index was carried out by exclusively Charles Dow, and then selection was done by editors-in-chief and analysts of The Wall-Street Journal.

Charles Dow managed to reveal to the world secrets and secrets of stock exchanges. It showed a way to success of each trader, it gave a new impulse in development of the perspective companies. He was not simply ingenious journalist and the founder of the company, he was the person who was able to look forward, and to see it such as it looks today.

Charles Dow died in Brooklyn on December 4, 1902.
